Background: Chingfords was established in 1978 to cater for the electro-plating needs of local electronics firms who required coatings such as copper, silver and tin. In 2003 Steve Searle who had been working with the company for 18 years became the new Managing Director. Since inception the company has broadened its capacity to cater for the zinc plating and chemical blackening requirements of the general engineering sector.

Quality: We pay particular attention to detail and all our rack plating is carried out manually. We carry out zinc plating of general components to BS1706, and threaded components to BS3382. Our chemical blacking service is carried out to MIL-DTL-13924D.

Market: We serve metal fabricators and engineers in the food, manufacturing, machinery, automotive, electronic and aerospace sectors as well as most other markets.

Location: Based in Maidenhead, berkshire close to the M4 and M40, Chingfords serve Reading, West London and the local regions.
Capacity.

Zinc Rack: We offer zinc plating on racks for items upto 6ft x 3ft x 3ft, in clear, colour and olive drab finishes working to BS1706.

The above table gives a general overview of the corrosion resistance in hours H of zinc plating with various passivate finishes for a given thicknesses of deposit µm based on a 5% neutral salt spray test. Note, we do not offer black zinc coatings.

Zinc Barrel: We operate 3 zinc plating barrels for items such as nuts, bolts, fasteners and brackets finishing in clear, colour and olive drab with a capacity of upto 1000kg/per day. We offer both hexavalent and trivalent coatings and work to BS3382 and BS1706 standards.

Minimum hours salt spray resistance for each type of passivation.

De-embrittlement: For high tensile components such as class 12.9 bolts, we offer a de-embrittlement service up to 300°C.

Chemical Blacking: Steel: We offer a chemical blacking service for mild steel components upto 1300mm x 600mm x 500mm weighing upto 500kg.

Chemical Blacking: Stainless-Steel: We offer a chemical blacking service for smaller stainless steel items.

Oil Coating: For both steel and stainless steel we offer a lanolin dip oil coating were required for extended life.

Standards: We work to the MIL-DTL-13924D standard which supercedes MIL-C-13924C.

Stainless Steel Passivating: We offer a stainless steel passivating service for items upto 3ft cubed. The service includes pickling and helps clean parts that cant be accessed manually by hand.

Chemical Blacking Brass & Copper Items: We offer a chemical blackening service for small brass and copper items upto 1ft cubed using EBENOL-C. For items with less than 66% copper content the parts must be copper plated first.

Phosphating: We offer a Phosphating service as well applying a final oil coating were required.

Anodising: We offer sulphuric, chromic & hard anodising in a range of colour's.

Alocrom: We offer 100, 1000 and 1200 Alocrom. Alocrom is an electrically conductive finish which offers moderate corrosion protection and an excellent base for painting and powder coating.
